Friday Finds – Street Collective of Greater Des Moines

While they have been around a while – so many people still don’t know about this awesome non-profit located in Des Moines’ East Village!!  Formerly called the Des Moines Bicycle Collective, the newly named Street Collective of Greater Des Moines is this month’s Friday Find.  The organization is dedicated to helping create stronger communities, neighborhoods and healthy individuals by encouraging active transportation choices.  Their bicycle inventory comes from donations that are the restored or rebuilt and sold at an affordable price – making a means for transportation more accessible for everyone.   They provide education opportunities to learn about bicycle care and restoration and have an awesome “Earn a Bike” program to that helps adults and mature teens earn a bike in exchange for volunteer service hours, learning how rebuild and maintain a bike.  The Street Collective of Greater Des Moines also partners with a ton of events around Greater Des Moines (like the Downtown Farmer’s Market) with their Bike Valet – encouraging attendees to take alternative transportation. If you don’t about the Street Collective – check them out on their website and if you have an old bike or two laying around – consider making a donation to their organization.

Just a reminder, Friday Finds is a way to show people the best local places to visit or experience. If you have one you love and want the world to know about, please let me know so I can include it!
