Fall Foliage in Iowa

Posted at 7:06 am on September 27, 2017

Around the Greater Des Moines area, we’ve all been told about the drought this summer which is causing leaves to change colors 2-3 weeks before they should. This means our typical Fall Foliage show of beautiful colors will be cut short. But.. Northeast Iowa is expected to have some of the best Fall colors around! What’s even cooler, the Iowa DNR gives a FALL COLOR REPORT so you can see where the best colors are each week. Call the hotline (515-233-4110), print out the weekly report, or sign up for email notifications. No need to worry about driving the distance to be disappointed. This will keep you up to date on exactly where you can go to see the most beautiful shades of yellows, reds, oranges, browns, pinks and magenta colors that blanket our state during October.

Looking for ideas of where to visit. Here’s the DNR’s list of our state parks with the best views. Find one in a location that has the current best colors and get out and explore!
